Outport Museum & Tea Room

Reflecting on a vanishing way of life, the Outport Museum & Tea Room is located in La Scie, Newfoundland, on the Baie Verte Peninsula. This two-story house, built in the early 1940s, offers a glimpse into rural outport life. Filled with antiques from that period, you can get a sense of what life was like.

The Tea Room offers a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere in which visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee along with a choice of traditional homemade Newfoundland foods and desserts.

Come take a guided tour, share a few yarns, hear stories of how it used to be and savor the rich history of the small fishing village of La Scie.

Iceberg/Whale Watching

La Scie is located on the doorstep of what is known as Iceberg Alley.  Icebergs that break off from the Greenland glacier follow the Labrador Current along the Northeast coast of Newfoundland.  From May until July each year icebergs can be viewed from shore as they make their way south along the coast.

From June thru August whales are frequent visitors to the  area.  From the Lookout at the end of town you can watch them just offshore as they pursue caplin and other foods.

 Kayaking
Canoeing

The harbour at La Scie is very well protected from the ocean and is a great place to drop a canoe or kayak into the water.  With careful attention to the weather and ocean conditions it can be a great experience to venture just outside the harbour to explore the nearby shoreline.  You will find great views of high cliffs, caves, working fishing gear and fishing boats, as well as whales.

Kayack Rentals are available-Contact AOL Mini Rentals @ (709) 532-7035.
